The hills of the Green Karst are part of the Dinarides – a mountain range stretching from Slovenia across the entire Balkan Peninsula. This is a world of vast forests, karst plateaus, and peaks offering views over picturesque valleys and all the way to the horizons of the Adriatic Sea. The highest peak in the Slovenian part of the Dinarides is Snežnik, rising 1,796 meters above sea level.

Nanos is a mighty karst plateau between the Postojna Basin and the Vipava Valley. Its silhouette is the most recognisable accompaniment to the route to the Adriatic Sea. The highest peak of the plateau is the 1313m high Suhi vrh.

The forested hills between Lake Pivka and Lake Cerknica, from the Postojna Gate to the Leskova Valley in the Lož Valley, invite you to ascend Veliki Javornik (1268m), Mali Javornik (1199m) and the viewpoint of Baba (1127m).
