Zalesje Partisan Hospital
Imagine how it was possible to find medical care and a place to recover during the World War? A hospital was built in the forest in the Brkini region and was the only hope for many of the wounded. Visit the hospital that weaves together stories of history, forest and courage.
The Zalesje Hospital was built by the partisans in January 1944. The operating room, wards, storage rooms, a kitchen with a chimney underground and dugouts for the seriously wounded were set up in strict secrecy. In one year, more than 200 people were treated here.
Today, the hospital is accessible by a pleasant path from the village of Ostrožno Brdo, where there is also a memorial room with a museum collection (Ostrožno Brdo 49, 6255 Prem).
Working hours: July and August on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays between 2 pm and 5 pm.
On request at 5 pm, a guided tour of the Partisan Hospital Zalesje is possible (min. 4 people).
For groups by prior arrangement.
