Pivka Seasonal Lakes Regional Park
In a landscape of a hundred faces water shapes life differently every day, and nature is constantly changing the scenery – lakes form when there is heavy rainfall, meadows turn into flowering fields when there is drought. Surprising changes await you at any time of the year.
The Regional Park covers 140 km2 of the Pivka Basin. The core of the park is the Intermittent Lakes Conservation Area. There are 17 lakes! They provide unique habitats for rare plants, birds and amphibians. You can discover a rich cultural heritage, including the stories of the legendary Martin Krpan.
The special features of the area are revealed by the Ecomuseum of the Seasonal Lakes of Pivka, while the thematic trails and numerous outdoor experiences – from hikes and cycling trips to animal watching and exploring the karst's peculiar features – bring you into real contact with nature and people.
